Why Being Athletic Can Make You A Baseball Superstar

We see it more today than we ever have. Players making it to the major leagues solely based on their physical talents. They can flash some leather on defense, and wreak havoc on opposing pitchers when they’re on the base paths. Physicality is becoming a very important tool in baseball today, so I’m going to give you some tips on how to stay on top of your physical game.

Improving your physical game not only means improving your speed, it means improving your strength. If you want to hit line drives with these new BBCOR bats that are regulation nowadays, you have to have some muscle on those arms, so you have to hit the weight room, and you’ll definitely see tangible results.

There are two types of training when it comes to your running. There is speed training and durability training, each of which come with their own benefits. Speed helps you track down dangerous balls in the outfield, steal bases, and stretch some of those doubles into triples. A coach always loves a player that’s easy to score once they get on. To improve the speed aspect of your game, you’ll want to do some lifting like leg pressing. Also, you’ll want to do a lot of short burst running so you can work on your quick first step and how to maintain your top speed.

Baseball is always known as the longest game in sports. The most games and usually the longest games as well, so it is very important that your body has the energy that is required to play at peak performance throughout the season. You don’t want to force your coach to sit you because you’re too tired to play the second game of the double header, or you don’t want to be too sore from when you had to run down some tricky balls in the outfield from your game the day before. A durable guy that can play day in and day out is very attractive to coaches. To improve on this aspect of your game, you’ll want to take long runs, around 2 miles and above, however you can start wherever you feel is right for you. Also you should eat a lot of protein to go with the lifting you’re going to be doing. This will ensure that when you get drilled by that hard fastball, you won’t have to spend any time on the DL, because you’ll be nice and sturdy and be able to shake off hits like those.

Along with all of this working out and conditioning comes your diet. I mentioned before that eating enough protein is crucial, and you also have to cut out some sweets from your diet. Little amounts are obviously okay, but excessive amounts will make you crash during critical game situations. You need to have a balanced diet, eating all of the major food groups. If you want to be a serious baseball player, then you need to be serious about your health as well. This can be your ticket into college and the big leagues, so you want to impose as much self-discipline as possible when it comes to your eating habits.

Your physical ability can get a ticket to the big leagues if you play your cards right. These are the things that I use to keep myself playing at peak performance, and I hope these can help you as well. Thank you for reading, it is very much appreciated, and be sure to look at my other posts for other ways on how to improve your overall baseball game.
