Rules All Baseball Players Need To Know To Play

If you're new to the game of baseball, then chances are you don't know many specifics about the game. Just by asking around you can easily figure out the objectives and basics of baseball, but I'm going to tell you some things that you need to know to play a season with your team and not get totally embarrassed by not knowing a rule.

Here are some need to know rules in no particular order: When the ball is put in play and that ball hits a different base runner before it touches any other player then the runner is out and the batter gets to take first base and it is called a hit. When there is a runner on first base and the ball is hit to the first basemen and he steps on first to get the batter out there is no longer a force out at second base so the runner running to second must be tagged to get called out. When a fly ball is caught by a defensive player, a base runner can start from the base where they originally started and try to advance a base if they can beat the fielders throw, which is also called "tagging up." As a base runner you can attempt to steal a base at any time, but it is wise to wait until the pitcher starts his move towards the plate because otherwise he can just spin and throw you out himself. When there are runners occupying at least first and second base with less than two outs and there is a pop up in the in field it is an infield fly (make sure the umpire calls it) and the batter is automatically out, and the runners can't advance. If you as a batter strike out in any way and the catcher doesn't catch the ball then you can run to first and if the catcher can't throw it to first before you get there you're safe, however if first base was previously occupied then you are automatically out. If you don't attempt to move out of the way of a pitch that hits you it is called a ball, you have to show the umpire that you're at least making an attempt to get out of the way. This one isn't really a rule, just something you should know: If you are on base and every single base behind you is occupied and there is two outs AND the batter has a full count then you should steal every time because it's impossible for you to get thrown out at that point. If you hit a fair ball and it bounces out of play in any way then it is called a ground rule double. When there are runners on base and the pitcher starts his motion towards the plate and stops in any way then it is called a balk and all base runners get to advance a base. As a catcher, if the batter swings and hits you at all, then it is called catcher's interference and the batter gets to take first base. The pitcher can not be on the mound without the baseball. If the batter has two strikes and he bunts the ball foul then it is a strikeout. If the ball rolls into foul territory before it passes third or first base then it is foul, however if it rolls foul after passing third or first base in fair territory then it is a fair ball.

Those were just some random rules that all baseball players should know in case that situation arises during your game. If you have any specific questions about a certain rule that you were wondering about you can leave a comment and I will respond in a very timely manner. I hope you learned something from this post and be sure to read my other posts for ways to improve your overall baseball game.
